About the Designer

Since I was a girl, I’ve been finding grace in math and geometry in art.

Welcome and thank you for stopping by! My name is Nancy, the woman behind Roots of Life Designs. I am a wife, mother, high school math teacher, jewelry designer and lover of the arts. To me, teaching math and designing jewelry aren’t on opposite ends of a spectrum. They’re just different expressions of the beauty in our world.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved creating. Growing up with little resources, I would make doll houses out of cardboard and dresses out of paper towels or anything I could find. I would spend hours decorating these Barbie dresses with vibrant colors and designs.

For the past couple of decades I have worn a multitude of hats. I started teaching high school math in the fall of 2005. In 2010, a tumor was discovered in my dad’s bile duct. He immediately underwent surgery, but had some complications. He was in a coma and we weren’t sure if he was going to make it. The anxiety and stress of possibly losing my dad made me look for an outlet to try to stay balanced during this tumultuous time. One day, I picked up some fabric and pliers I had laying around and I created my first pair of earrings. While teaching is a way of empowering the next generation, making art is a way of empowering myself. I find the process of creating deeply healing. I enjoy putting my love of beauty and hope for the world into every piece I craft by hand.

After initial success, I took a break from designing to focus on becoming a wife and mother. In those years, I never stopped creating—and never lost my penchant for fashion. In 2021, I reopened my design studio and started making my unique pieces available to the public.
